When there’s more than one person speaking try to avoid cross-talk whenever possible. During these times you may be able to hear each other because you’re on the line together; however, once it’s recorded the transcriptionist may not be able to make out much of what was said because those involved in the discussion are speaking over each other at the same time.

When deciding to have something transcribed, be mindful of this so when you get your transcript back it is clear and concise, reflecting each person’s comments and providing it’s reader with the understanding needed to follow the meeting dialog.

 

Tip #2

When looking into having something transcribed be sure to do your due diligence and research. Check out not only companies you find online such as freelance sites like: Guru or Elance, Craigslist or even Monster, other transcription services and even those that have been referred to you by others, because what works for one may not work for you.

Be leery that cheaper isn’t always better, so be sure to get samples if you can from those you touch base with. If you find an experienced transcriber/transcription service have them provide references, find out where they’re located and how long they’ve been doing this type of work.

Then, once you find the individual/company that’s a good fit for you, keep them close, because they can become valuable assets for you/your business.
